# Dragon Speech Recognition - Does it work (on Mac silicon) under Parallels?

 Hello dear G2 Icons,  I am (voluntary, just being helpful) assisting a friend.   The question at hand is, which new computer (a -latest model- Mac laptop) to acquire.   Not a overly complex question (one might think). However, while taking inventory (like the sane persons we are 🥳) we stumbled upon a "small" caveat in regards to "Dragon Speech Recognition".  Context:  The current "daily driver" is a (pc - non Mac) laptop and is ready for "retirement". The device is approximately 8 years old, runs (crawls) Windows 10 (on 4GB RAM, I was like: 😳) but most importantly "Dragon Speech Recognition", which is used extensively (almost daily).  Any new (2023) laptop (running either Windows or macOS) will obviously make for a better experience. Just for reference, having a Zoom call (on the current laptop) will just, but only just, work, sharing a screen and "frozen" it is.  I digress, I tend to do that.     A new M2 MacBook Pro with all bells and whistles (read, lots of RAM, or unified memory as Apple calls it) checks all (required - we took inventory - 👍) boxes but 1...   Dragon Speech Recognition is (unfortunately) "Windows only".      Parallels to the rescue?   Installing Parallels (the version that runs on Apple silicon, the M1 and M2 Mac's) is easy and the same applies to Windows 11 (ARM version required in Parallels on Apple silicon), not difficult.  One step closer for: Dragon Speech Recognition is "Windows only".      But alas, Dragon Speech Recognition is seemingly (at least not officially) "Windows ARM" compatible.   Knowing that Nuance, the company behind Dragon Speech Recognition, was bought by Microsoft (in March of 2022) I say: Hooray...🤷🏻‍♂️     Question:  Does anyone have experience running Dragon Speech Recognition (version 16) under (a) Windows 11 (ARM version), in Parallels (on Apple silicon, M1, M2)? <p>I got Dragon Speech a few years ago as a gift. (I might even have the exe backed up someplace still lol) I know you are asking about MAC o/s, but just in case you were interested in a personal review.</p><p>I had at the time Windows 7 (tail end of 7 when everyone was upgrading to 10). It did not work as well as what I thought it would after reviewing their website and instructions. The concept is fantastic and I was excited. After a few tries, I gave up. I spent to much time trying to get it to work properly. Maybe it is better now?</p>

Thanks Gloria, seemingly it (Dragon) works great for my friend (on his Windows laptop). I contacted a reseller and got provided a (5 times startup) trial for Dragon version 16. I have yet to install it (on my Mac -silicon- setup with Windows running in Parallels). Given the 5 times (startup) limit, I will wait until we next meet so I can have my friend "take the Dragon for a virtual spin" on my Mac. Best, Mark
