Since the introduction of CentOS in 2004, the system has become increasingly popular with enterprises as a low-cost, robust alternative to Red Hat Linux. While CentOS is released under a General Public License (GPL), and thus requires no license or subscription fees, CentOS is considered functionally and binary equivalent to RHEL. Furthermore, as of January 2014, CentOS has officially partnered with Red Hat and most CentOS programming is funded by Red Hat. The recent announcement of the acquisition of Red Hat by IBM strengths our commitment to CentOS, and create new opportunities for further data center optimizations such as embracing Red Hat OpenShift.

As part of the Domino 10.0 release on October 10, 2018, CentOS is now a supported platform for Domino applications servers, joining already supported Linux variants such as Red Hat, SUSE, and AIX. The addition of CentOS operating system support for Domino will provide Domino customers an additional tool in achieving lower a total cost of ownership.
