# Customer.io segments and attributes are transparent, but is the learning curve worth it?

I like how transparent segments and attributes are in Customer.io, and it feels useful for engagement and nurture. The downside for me is the learning curve compared to more blackbox generative solutions, and not everything is natural language. In return, you get more precise control and observability. How have you balanced the learning curve vs the control you get in Customer.io?

<p>Customer.io has an initial learning curve around attributes, segments, and event-driven workflows, but the flexibility and precision are worth the investment. As CTO of RaptorLabs.dev, I see the biggest value in creating highly targeted customer journeys across startupaccelerator.dev and typemic.com while reducing manual work and improving engagement.</p>
