Conference feature with Google Hangouts?

Has anyone tried it? I'm using Skype and GH's looking better each day but I just can't switch that easily if I don't get at least similar features and it's quality.

This definitely seems to be a popular site feature; one person who I know uses it a lot is B.L. Ochman. You should check out some of what she's written on this topic over at her blog: whatsnextblog.com. Lots there on hangouts.

I've found that the video starts to get incredibly leggy as you add users to GH. Audio is always pretty reliable. It's also a resource hog and my computer gets taxed hard core.

Interesting point - I have had more dropped calls or odd behavior booting me from the call on Google Hangouts than Skype. It is a rather young/new platform and product, so it may take 1-2 years to get mature enough for business use.

The thing is, when there's a problem with connectivity (latency more than bandwith), it still lags enough not to be better than Skype. I'll give it a try very soon between 2 countries with different connectivity initiatives and come back with a more thorough examination.

Have used Google Hangouts for talking to family all over the US and Canada. It works more reliably than Skype for those with varying bandwidth. Give it a try with some friends first before you mention it as an idea for use in the workplace.
