# Can HAProxy help with DDoS, or is that something I need another tool for?

We're reviewing how much protection can happen at the load balancer before we invest in another

It helps directly, and the DDoS side stays within HAProxy rather than needing a separate tool. At Layer 7, the HAProxy Enterprise load balancer mitigates application-layer DDoS inline. It applies connection limits and global rate limiting through the Global Profiling Engine, and its Bot Management Module, powered by the Threat Detection Engine, identifies and mitigates bot-driven floods. At Layer 4, it protects against connection exhaustion and abuse. For high-volume Layer 3 and Layer 4 floods that saturate the network link or kernel, the HAProxy ALOHA hardware appliance adds patented PacketShield filtering that blocks unwanted packets at wire speed.
