You shouldn't! At least with your own billing system you have control. If you use Chargebee, they won't compensate you for their faulty engineering.

Building your own billing system is capital and labor-intensive. You need to spend a minimum of $300k just to set it up, and any additional features as you grow, like adding a new payment gateway, supporting a new pricing model, or plugging into a new CRM, will take months of effort. Adding new products or plans or changing price points will need developers. By the time you realize the effort even the smallest changes take, you’d have lost a lot of potential revenue.

With Chargebee, you can drastically reduce your go-to-market time and have complete control over your subscription lifecycle and product catalog whenever needed. Chargebee solves more than just billing. We also help you automate collections, compliant revenue recognition, and retention.
Here’s something that will help if you’re considering building your own billing system: https://www.chargebee.com/resources/guides/building-subscription-management/

Hope this helps navigate some of the questions you have.

Cheers,
Harikrishna from Chargebee
