Vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities are defined as defects in software that could give an attacker an opportunity to exploit the system. Nessus Professional scans for a variety of vulnerabilities, including software flaws, missing patches, malware, and misconfigurations - across a variety of operating systems, devices, and applications.

It scans the system for  different vulnerabilities depending on what policy you want to scan the system with (like Internal PCI, Policy Compliance, SCAP, etc). It prepares the report of the output of the scan and suggests what needs to be done to fix those vulnerabilities.
