# A free LMS? What's the trick?

Chamilo can be defined as a Free Software, or "Open Source" project, meaning people who develop it think there's actually more to gain on working together (with other people and businesses) on a great platform than acting by themselves in their separate teams, and that we live in an era of services and there is enough to gain by providing expert services on this solution instead of a license on the solution itself. The result is a software that is free to use for everyone, free to study and modify, free to redistribute (including with modifications), and a network of services providers that are not only talented but also very open-minded. This gives for great results in terms of custom solutions implementations! No trick, just good will and a drive to make humanity move forward.
