When choosing software to run your retail cannabis operation (dispensary and/or delivery), finding the features you need is not enough - make sure to look for compliance, reliability and alignment of interests.

- Compliance: does the system accurately account for the complex regulations retailers have to follow? For example, by preventing sales to minors; by applying different purchase limits and tax rates by customer type (adult use or medical); by accurately reporting to your state's track and trace system; and by never having inventory "disappear" (unfortunately this is a real thing with some systems).

- Reliability: software that crashes on Friday afternoon or 4/20 because it's busy can seriously hurt your business. Ask for their up-time (Meadow's is 99.99% for over 8 years) and ask for references of shops using their software. Ask to see how fast they can load a real menu or inventory list with thousands of products.

- Alignment: some companies offer cheap software because they operate a directory of your competitors. Conflicts of interest over who owns the customer and your data are common - with Meadow your customers and data are yours, never sold or used to help your competitors. The way it should be!
