SAP Business ByDesign is a full business management tool, used to integrate all departments into a single system. The entire organization uses the same platform for various functions (finance, sales, procurement, logistics, production, services, etc.). It addresses the issue of siloed information providing a single source of truth and therefore helps to eliminate data consistency issues. ByDesign gives users access to real-time information (service calls, pending orders, sales opportunities, financial balances, etc.) with user controlled permissions. One more comment. You asked if SAP Business ByDesign can be used for small scale organizations. The answer is yes, SAP Business ByDesign plays in the SME space. We have  customers from as little as 10 users up to organizations with more than 8000 users. But you need a certain size before ByDesign can really show its benefits to connect departments and streamline business processes. If you have more than 20 users (or ambitious growth plans) then your organization is mature enough and ByDesign is a good choice.
