# how do i auto refresh my data?

Would like map to be auto refreshed on a custom schedule, or when manually initiated. Also, how do you upload your own custom web map service, instead of using the default base maps that are provided? There are some situations where the base map is insufficient in detail, or creating too much noise that obscures the visualization that is created.

CARTO enables sync tables to make sure that data stored in your CARTO account is up to date. https://carto.com/help/tutorials/understanding-sync-tables/

When you connect an external database to your CARTO account, you can select the frequency to sync the data (e.g. every hour, day, week, or month). That way you’ll never be working with stale data!
