# What are the best way on integrating the database directly to yEd?

Can one integrate the yEd application to work directly with a database like mysql to allow direct generation of a database design from the database to the yEd editor.

If you want to find the most convenient tool for working with databases that you can integrate, my choice fell on https://www.erdlab.io . This software is designed to model databases while working in parallel on several projects. This makes it very easy to work in general and optimizes the workflow for the company and for each individual employee.

yEd itself cannot integrate with a database. It's not meant to be used for automation tasks like this and indeed using yEd as part of an automated process is not allowed under the standard (free) licensing.

With yFiles, the underlying commercial software library you achieve this. yEd is built on yFiles and a software developer can help you build the "yEd of your dreams", allowing you to connect to your databases, and perform all kinds of magic. 
An example of such a custom application -which happens to be free, too- is the yWorks "database explorer" - you can find more information about the tool, here: https://yworks.com/neo4j   - yEd itself has no such feature on its roadmap, though.
