# Why are the icons not so specific?

It is really a suggestion to improve, in particular I would like the interface to be more friendly.

Not being part of their UI team, I will answer this question from both the perspective of a long time user and a Google critic:
1. Icons become obsolete. As an example I point to the ubiquitous "Save" icon, which is still a 3.5 inch floppy disk. Many of today's users have never seen, let alone used a 3.5 inch floppy disk, yet they know the icon is associated with "Save." It is a quaint artifact, like a rotary dial phone.
2. Google changes their UI all the time, and often not for the better. This is a huge frustration for end users, particularly older end users. Their drive icons follow this arbitrary pattern. although for the apps within the drive they do at least mirror aspects of more familiar MS Office tools, especially in terms of color.
In short, developers and UI designers are not necessarily being paid to appeal to the end user. They are also challenged by having to design products not for a specific user or context, but for a very wide range of multilingual, multidisciplinary users, and we have to learn to live with it.

You make a great point, but some may argue that the design are more symbolic than an associated of what they do. You look at the light bulb symbol, for example, it has stayed the same over the years even with LED light in place these days, but we all know what it symbolizes. But like I say, you make a very compelling point, and I think things changes gradually than abruptly.

I agree, only in some cases it is not so punctual, maybe you see a redesign.

I find that the icons are exaclty as specific as needed - docs, sheets, slides, keep, drive, folders, etc.
