There were some issues. But they were solved completely

Without sounding too conspiracy theorist, I believe Zoom was doing too well at the height of COVID and competition decided to use misinformation to scare the masses. I’ve yet to encounter an issue and I’m on it several hours a day. We like it over its competitors and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future.

Zoom have done a lot of work in this area in the last few months and are now probably as safe as anyone else. Anyone who says otherwise - particularly competitors - is likely to be quoting old information. I use Zoom frequently and have never had, or heard of anyone who has had, any issues - certainly none since the upgrade to version 5. As always, you need to keep your version current as a precaution.

I have no issues at all with Zoom re data privacy - been using it very extensively over the course of the pandemic, and all good for me and those I communicate with.

I haven't had any issues. However it is necessary to have new logins and pws for each session - apart from repetitive sessions for the same group.
Also I recommend look in detail at the settings and choose those which are most appropriate to your actvities. You don't need to repeat it everytime, but for the first use it is worthwhile spending some time making the right choices.
ALSO: MAKE SURE YOUR SOFTWARE VERSION OF ZOOM IS UPDATED. After the campaign some competitors have probably launched signalling security issues, Zoom has mad a series of adaptations.

I would highly recommend using passwords carefully (which is now the default). There was a slew of incidents where people would join meetings that weren't utilizing the proper credentials and they caused a lot of problems.

You should check HIPAA requirements if you plan to use this in a medical setting as I believe you could run into issues there.

I would highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the different settings such as whether or not users can share screen, who can use video and do users join automatically or only with host permission.

For general business use, your email address is probably the biggest vulnerability as far as zoom is concerned. If somebody has access to your calendar, they could potentially join a meeting as you if you don't alter the meeting invitation so that the one click link isn't available.

While using it during our last quarter last school year, I encountered no issues. I do not use it this year except to join my church sessions.

Zoom has had, and does have, security issues.

See:

In these articles, they detail the "zoombombing" that could occur before more security measures were put in place. Additionally, some information was being forwarded to Facebook at one point (not in current versions).

Zoom also took a hit for saying they used E2E (end-to-end) encryption which they (and their competitors do not do).

However, for general use Zoom is now as secure as we can expect without losing major functionality.

I use Zoom mainly for teaching. And the kids know each other in F2F class. And what I share mostly are learning materials. So there isn’t a question about data privacy.

I've used Zoom for 5+ years. Meetings with numerous types of companies all of whom consider data privacy and security as paramount - healthcare, financial services and cybersecurity. I've researched this and Zoom is safe.
