# How do I teach my parents how to use SS so it is effective for them?

Sometimes my parents don’t know how to respond to texts and don’t know how to call back. What is the best way to train/educate them in a meaningful way?

I leave voice mails, call back, or send a paper note with directions on how to use school status. They can also call the school number and ask to speak to me so I can explain how they can use the system.

I have never been on the other side of the phone call but they tell me there's a list of how to respond (leave a voicemail, call back, etc) associated with a number selection. I feel it would be helpful to test call myself somehow and hear what they hear because they might not know to listen through the choices.

I agree with Julie, if they know how to text, they simply respond. I always give parents our school number to call if they have questions. I haven't had any parent express difficulty in utilizing the platform. Best communication tool ever!!!

Hi! Here is a link to a printable letter you can send to parents - https://help.schoolstatus.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032437932-Announcing-SchoolStatus-to-Parents.
Each teacher at your school has their own unique School Status number. The parents will need to save that number in their phones and can text or call you using it. They do not have to download an app, it automatically sends through SS. Hope this helps!

School Status really does not need any training - it is an easy way for teachers to get in touch with parents, and for parents to text back in real time. There is no training needed.
