# Why does search not find what I'm looking for?

Everyone is constantly complaining about search being very difficult to find what you are looking for. It seems there are two types of searched, but which one does what?

Hi Charles,
Like many transactional systems, the search is complex mostly because of the sheer amount of data involved. There are a lot of search options and it depends on what you are looking for and the search terms you are looking for. Our community forums are also a great place to ask questions like this, there are many Hornbill people and customers that frequent the community forums who will have relevant experience, and there have been many posts about search features - I would encourage you to check that resource out too:  https://community.hornbill.com/

Any finally, we are also in the process of reengineering the underlying infrastructure, there are many reasons for doing this but one of them is a much better over search terms and search results.  This is work in progress and likely to be completed this year, as there is quite a lot to do

There is a global search option which returns data in an unstructured way (not date or alphabetical order) which can't easily be exported for better analysis.

Using the filters (date, team, etc) you can get much better data in a structured format which you can export.

The global search is useful to quickly search for general info, but when you need precise data the filters are great.
