# How do we use a password based login approach without distributing the password?

Its always risky to use some type of algorithm because if someone in your distribution leaves your group or organization, it wouldn&#39;t take much to figure out the password; not to mention possible malicious intent by giving out your &quot;DECODER RING&quot; so to speak. That said, you could try a format like: A2sxdc2020! (more or less characters, depending on your sw requirements). When a pw change is required, you could increment the numbers and letters by 1 digit or character.  example: the incremental pw to  A2sxdc2020! could be: B3tyed3131!  Special characters like ! are often limited on which you can use... so watch that.. once the algorithm  is known, you would have an EASY digital trail of all your past passwords, as well as future passwords.  See the implicit risk?   You could somewhat mitigate that risk by changing the password using a vastly different initial configuration when someone leaves.  SECURITY is always key ... you can brainstorm different starting algorithm approaches... but this one way you can avoid distributing PW&#39;s as long as you understand the RISKS involved and mitigate appropriately.
