# Is there a way to improve uploading and downloading speeds? And protection  from hackers?

Downloading is extremely slow and often my files go missing, as data was removed.

OneDrive has a Vault where you can store files that are more sensitive.  The Vault requires MFA/2FA (multi- or two-factor authentication) where you have to do more than just log into OneDrive to access the files (e.g., verify your identity with a code).

There are many factors that will affect your upload/download speed, starting with your physical location compared to the nearest Azure datacentre where your OneDrive data is kept, then you have your internet service provider and your own equipment (or work/school) to factor in. Some you can change (if at home, ISP, own router/wifi) and some you can't (location).
You can do a simple test to see what your local speed is at speedtest.net, but then you may want to check to a large city nearby (if you aren't in one) to see what the speed is to a likely location of an Microsoft Azure datacentre.
Even on slow connections the client will synchronise everything or only some files if you have streaming turned ON.

As for protection from hackers, there are several technologies available and should be used within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. You should use strong passwords (passphrases are better), and turn ON MFA (multi factor authentication, also known as 2FA).
Plus OneDrive for Business will notify you via email if many files are removed at once.
I would login to your online OneDrive account to see that all your files are there and then see why they are not syncing to your device/s.
