# What is the best way to customize a template?

I want to buff out our templates and include videos that roll on their own instead of just a .gif preview. Is there a way to do this? I realize the file size could be large, but we could always make a small video for this.

I called and spoke with Constant Contact customer service to see if this feature had been added yet.  They informed be that embedding videos to play directly from and email, and not open in another window, is not yet an available feature.

You can ask to be put on a list that will be emailed once the feature is resolved.

It won't be added. ESPs do not like internal video in emails since they can be used to inject malicious code. Its better to create a linked image that can be clicked that will go to your landing page which can host a video.

Hi, Timothy! This is a great question. As a few others noted in their replies, this is not currently a feature we offer. However, I did want to make sure that you are aware of our Vimeo integration! This integration allows you to embed GIFs in your email to entice your readers to click through and watch your full video. We hope that this helps!

As an addendum to the correct answer from Denise, I think it should also be pointed out that auto-playing a video within an email is probably NOT a feature arriving anytime soon. As an Automation Director for a Managed IT Services Provider, I spend a fair amount of time researching and staying current on security best practices.

Video files can be injected with code producing ill effects like malware installs, phishing popups, etc., so auto-playing an email-embedded video introduces a huge security hole requiring a lot of extra preventative steps to maintain recipient security. It could also potentially be disabled by settings inside a recipient's mail client (i.e., Outlook, Gmail, etc.) if they have disabled such features on their end.

In prior years, when we have sent videos to Constant Contact mailing lists, we just inserted a thumbnail with a link to the actual video file hosted on our website. It isn't the seamless solution you're asking about, but it is far more secure, and it is already available without having to wait for a feature release.

Josef is indeed correct. Email providers will bounce any email containing large code packages. The best way is indeed to take a screencap of the Youtube video opening screen and make it linkable, so that when your prospects click they land at your landing page.
