# How frequently should an audience list be maintained to remove inactive users?

We recently archived a number of customers who hadn't engaged with our emails for a prolonged period. We had not done this for quite a long time and were wondering what is the optimal frequency for managing this?

For the best results, we typically recommend performing a deep clean of your audience every 3 to 6 months. This frequency ensures you aren't paying for "ghost" subscribers who aren't opening your content, while also keeping your engagement rates high, which signals to email providers that your content is wanted.

The optimal frequency for maintaining emails that haven't been engaged with is 6 months. Mailchimp charges you for the size of your audience so if they're hanging out you could be paying for it. Make sure you send out an email targeting these people before getting rid of them to a backup csv somewhere. Having a massive email list is useless if your audience isn't engaging.

I use s different way to know who I have to delete: I create s campaign, I select an audience and than I choose to create a new group or segment, I set "campaign activity: did not open last 20 email, I create an email like this: Hello *|FNAME|*, if you don't want to receive our newsletter, please unsubscribe.
the contacts that will not open my email will be deleted
