# What is the best way to make sure you stay on top of your timekeeping throughout the month?

I have a hard time working up the motivation to keep track of my time all month long and so have a tendency to fill it out suddenly at the end of the month. What does everyone else do to stay on top of things? Any advice or suggestions?

I use the timer to track my time on each matter I work on during the day.  I can stop working on one manner by turning off that matter's timer and start or restart another timer on another matter.  When I start a timer, I try to fill in a description of what I am doing, or whenever I stop a timer I make sure there is description of the work performed

Billing your time at the end of the month generally results in your losing significant time that you would not lose if you billed your time daily. If entering time as you go or using the timers  available in the software, are not your thing, then try entering your time at the end of the day using your emails sent and your phone records of incoming and outgoing calls as a guide to the way you expended your time each day. Capturing your time when it is fresh allows you to reflect a little more detail which refreshes your clients recollection of the services you provided that month.
