# How to export CSVs in a format that respects Spanish characters such as ñ letter, or accents.

When I need to hand a CSV of our prospects to a colleague and then it's almost un reedeable.

To ensure those accents and ñ’s stay perfect, Mailchimp exports all files in UTF-8 encoding, the gold standard for preserving international characters. When a file looks unreadable, it’s usually just because Excel needs a quick nudge to speak the same language.

To make sure your data looks as good for your colleague as it does in Mailchimp, have them Import the file instead of double-clicking it: in Excel, go to the Data tab, select From Text/CSV, and ensure the File Origin is set to 65001: Unicode (UTF-8). This simple step ensures our universal format is translated correctly on their screen. If you're often sharing these on the go, we'd also recommend trying Google Sheets, which is great at automatically recognizing Mailchimp’s encoding without any extra steps.

This might need some finessing. I would take this csv into excel and clean it up. Find and replace the error character in the cells and export to a UFT-8 csv. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, well that's overall what I do, but Mailchimp in my opinion should address the issue to save our time doing the job. Thanks again.
