In December 2017, Telegram reached 180 million monthly active users. In March 2018, Telegram reached 200 million monthly active users. On 14 March 2019, Pavel Durov claimed that "3 million new users signed up for Telegram within the last 24 hours."

My company uses Telegram on a daily basis. While there are some concerns about encryption, these are mostly a high level conversation. Generally, Telegram is a fast, safe way to call and text people and share a wide variety of filetypes. Other recommended secure messaging apps include Signal, Keybase and Wicker.
