# How do I make Unified Classroom and PowerTeacher show a nickname?

Hi Cherri, I’m a research analyst in the education market at G2. Thanks for your question. 

It looks like you as the teacher first need to allow nicknames to appear on your class pages. In PowerSchool, go to the Manage Class dropdown menu and click Class Settings. Under the General tab, there should be a checkbox option under Settings that says “Allow user nicknames.” See PowerSchool’s detailed instructions with screenshots here:

Students and parents should have the ability to add a nickname through each individual’s “My Information” screen, under the “My Account” menu in PowerSchool. Please note that it looks like PowerSchool allows domain administrators to prevent students from adjusting their nicknames, so you’d want to ensure that nicknames are allowed at the domain level.
