What do you like best about Samsara?

Samsara made a significant effort to assist my company in establishing an effective system for managing our vehicles and cranes. Initially, we were uncertain whether we could find a solution that would document and alert us to any faults, particularly with complex equipment such as cranes. What do you dislike about Samsara?

Understanding their billing system is quite challenging, and if an error occurs, it can take months before it is finally resolved. Another issue we've had is the training. What do you like best about Samsara?

From an employee perspective, I appreciate how simple and accessible the system is. Since I am responsible for orienting new hires, I walk them through how to assign themselves to a truck or trailer, submit documents, and navigate the different tabs on the home screen. Two features stand out to me: first, when scanning a document, the screen turns blue and the picture is taken automatically, which is very convenient. Second, when you properly sign out at the end of the day and then start your next shift, signing back in checks whether you are certified or not. What do you dislike about Samsara?

I find this difficult to use because it's not clear whether problems are caused by the WIFI or internet connection, the tablet itself, the camera, or simply user error. It becomes especially frustrating during the initial setup when, after scanning the QR code, not all the apps download as expected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Samsara?

The ability to "fine tune" and customize the system heavily drove our decision to go with Samsara over other companies. The ease of use is also beyond that of other fleet management software, and everyone on my fleet team is pleased with the Samsara system. I monitor safety events daily, and I don't know what we would do without Samsara. Customer Support has always immediately reached out about any issues we have had, which have been few. Install of the camera systems and gateways is extremely streamlined and easy. Samsara works well alongside our WEX gas card account to monitor fuel purchases for fraud. I would say that I'm very satisfied with Samsara, and I'm glad my company chose Samsara for our Fleet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Samsara?

The only thing that has been a thorn in our side since implementation is frequent emails of disconnected gateways and disconnected cellular connection sometimes floods the inbox with disconnected gateway emails, and there does not seem to be a solution to cellular connectivity issues in the panhandle of Florida. What do you like best about Samsara?

The vast array of features. The helicopter view is very accurate and seamless, coming from a previous program that only refreshed and update the current location(s) every 30 seconds. Additionally, everything being incorporated into the software to include dispatching, e-logs, coachings, HOS tracking as well as the extras such as fleet maintenance and management is essential in the business of logistics. What do you dislike about Samsara?

I am still fairly new to Samsara use and still learning each day. I have not yet found anything that does not suit my needs or that is missing that should be incorporated. What do you like best about Samsara?

The thing I like best about Samsara is the ability to customize the platform. Easily naming assets, quickly locating said assets, custom reports for idle time, distance, speed, and safety alerts. What do you dislike about Samsara?

I dislike the number of invoices samsara generates in a month. Our company has its largest portion of the fleet on a two year contract, however if any new asset tracker or two way camera is purchased it is set up in a whole new billing invoice. As a growing company we currently receive about 8-9 invoices per month. I wish Samsara would just combine them to make for easier and simpler book keeping. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Samsara?

It is relatively easy to access various features, such as HOS, Safety Cameras, and Maintenance items from within the same dashboard. There are also various tools within the interface that we can use to communicate with our drivers to achieve higher levels of safety and improve everyone's experience.

Samsara makes it easy to integrate with your company's directory for better access control and integrates with so many other systems as well for supporting maintenance and other tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Samsara?

Some features are tailored heavily toward organizations which unhook trailers from their tractors. This creates complication and extra cost for us, as we almost never unhook from our trailers. The tractor and trailer models are built as pairs. This causes us to purchase equipment we should not need, such as the AG, since the trailer ABS data should also be accessible from the tractor's OBD/CAN bus. It also makes reporting and HOS logging unnecessarily complex, as we do not need to track the trailers, nor does the driver need to specify the trailer, as it follows the tractor.

You cannot turn the hotspot feature on for specific VGs or by tag. This reduces our ability to use this feature.

Some areas in the console have lists which cannot be exported as a CSV. For example, if we are trying to find the app versions for each employee after an update, we have to contact our TAM, because while you can research this individually, you cannot produce a mass list.

You cannot assign a default workflow for start or end of day. This is a HUGE design flaw. Default workflows should be assigned to drivers upon account creation automatically based on criteria specified with the workflow. Additionally, there is no way to use the API to assign these workflows, which would be a good workaround to the situation.

Customer support has improved, but may still be a disconnect between diagnosing the problem currently happening and putting the driver back on the road. Occasionally, we have tickets where a driver cannot submit logs or cannot log in, and support often wants to wait quite a bit of time for engineering to solve the root cause, while there may be a workaround to allow the driver to resume working without using a paper log. Collecting diagnostic information for support is not always easy. There should be a way to send diagnostic logging to your engineering team so that they can research problems while we attempt to reset app data or other aspects to get the driver moving again. What do you like best about Samsara?

Samsara has been a reliable investment for our fleet operations. It offers cost-effectiveness, delivers a strong return on investment, and remains stable in our daily activities. The platform’s intuitive design allows both administrators and drivers to get started quickly and easily. Integration with our other systems went smoothly, with minimal issues during setup, and ongoing synchronizations have been consistently dependable. Creating API keys is a straightforward process, which has made custom integrations much simpler. The dash cams and driver scorecards are particularly valuable for enhancing safety and supporting proactive coaching. In summary, Samsara successfully blends user-friendliness with robust features that streamline compliance, increase visibility, and boost operational efficiency. What do you dislike about Samsara?

The driver messaging system is a significant weakness for Samsara. When a driver opens any message, all previously unread messages are automatically marked as read, which can easily result in important communications being overlooked. Furthermore, when a driver sends a message, it is placed in a general queue instead of an individual inbox, unlike the system we used with Omnitracs. As a result, if anyone in the company reads the message, it is marked as read, and the person who actually needs to see it may never receive it.

I also have concerns about the accuracy of the reporting. The data usage reports have indicated usage levels three times higher than what we have historically seen. After looking into it, I discovered that the report does not provide accurate information and cannot be trusted for making business decisions. Support has been slow to address this problem. Finally, while integration with TMW requires a middleware layer, this is due to a limitation on TMW’s side, not an issue with Samsara. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Samsara?

I love that I can check on where my drivers are and that it is easy to check on where my fleet is at. I like that I can tell how much gas and battery life each vehicle has. I use this every day to see where my drivers have stopped. It is great when a customer calls saying we didn't stop at their location and I can pull up exactly where my driver was. I also like that I can tell which drivers have incidents and exactly what type of incident they had. Easy to learn how to use and teach employees how to use it.
