When using DaaS, desktop operating systems operate within [virtual machines (VM)](https://www.g2.com/glossary/virtual-machine-definition) on servers in a cloud provider&#39;s data center. The cloud infrastructure also houses the essential support components, such as storage and network resources.&amp;nbsp;

A DaaS provider streams virtual desktops to a customer&#39;s endpoint devices over a network. End users may access them using client software or a web browser.

Two types of desktops are available with DaaS: persistent and non-persistent.

- **Non-persistent desktop:** Desktops are deleted every time the user logs out. They are simply a way to access shared cloud services.
