How to Reclaim Your Time With Workflow Automation Software
The average work week is 40 hours, but how much of that do you spend on repetitive tasks?

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Accounting
Accounting is one of the most important, yet daunting and expensive departments in almost all companies.
Accountants oversee all financial operations of a business to help it run smoothly and efficiently. These include preparing and analyzing financial statements (e.g., cash flow, income statement, balance sheet), paying taxes on time, and maintaining the companies’ general ledger (GL). All these tasks require a great deal of human interaction that takes time and money; no matter how careful an employee may be, there is always the chance for human error, which could snowball and lead to devastating financial results in the future.

How to Stay Organized When Closing Books Remotely
Almost any public or private business with an accounting and finance department performs a month, quarter, and year-end close, which is a series of steps to review, record, and reconcile accounting information.
For this blog, I’m going to refer to only month-end close for consistency and simplicity.

Question on: Smartsheet
Why is smartsheet bad?Why is smartsheet bad?

Complexity: Smartsheet has a fairly steep learning curve, especially for users who are not tech-savvy or unfamiliar with project management tools.
Limited functionality: Some users might find that Smartsheet lacks certain advanced features compared to other project management tools, making it less suitable for complex project requirements.
Price: While Smartsheet offers a free version with limited functionality, its paid plans can be expensive for small businesses or individuals on a tight budget.
User interface: Though Smartsheet's interface has improved over time, some users still find it less intuitive and visually appealing compared to other project management tools.

This is a question that begs more context. What are you looking to have that Smartsheet does not provide? Conversely, anytime you choose a tool, you need to adopt your processes to adapt to the tool, not vice versa. It's all a very good application for what it does, and if you're asking this kind of a question, it's probably not that Smartsheet is bad, but that it does not align to what you need or vice versa.

Smartsheets tends to have a steep learning curve. It is promoted much differently than it is. The interface isn’t very user-friendly, which can make it challenging to chart and analyze data. Unless you’re generating reports, there’s no real easy way to analyze the sheets at-a-glance. Plus, it cannot solve all the problems that Jira is able to, nor offer as much connectivity as needed to make it as powerful an option.

it takes a lot of programming on the backend to map sheets together and create dashboards - people think it's easy because it "looks like" Excel, but it is way more complex.

i never said that Smartsheet is bad. It is great for what we use it for.

Not apparent how to integrate with google docs. I believe there's an add on but they required me to set up a meeting with a salesperson to discuss, which was annoying plus also just didn't happen.

Just in case this is not a typo...Smartsheet is NOT BAD. Smartsheet will be the best program you will purchase for your business. There will never be a time you will regret purchasing Smartsheet. Our company purchased Smartsheet in 2016, since then, we have expanded and opened two more sister companies and both have Smartsheet. I literally have over 90 Smartsheets I have used over the past 7 years and will continue creating them for any and all projects that I need to report on. I have over 14 open on my desktop that I use everyday, I toggle back and forth between them throughout the day. I could not manage my day without them.

I genuinely hate the color options on Smartsheet. Not only are we limited to the default palette, but the colors within the same family don't even work well together visually. If I use 5 different shades of blue, I expect all of those shades to be cohesive. I like Smartsheet for its functionality but could definitely use an aesthetic tweak.

The basic level subscription no longer allows non-subscribers to update data on a SmartSheet. What is the point of having a subscription at all if you can get feedback from others. Basically, it makes the product useless.

Smartsheet isn't bad. It's one of the more comprehensive software I've used to help us track inventory and tasks/projects, and create forms and tracking sheets. It's more versatile than using Google Docs, Excel, Asana, etc. You can do so much with it. Our HR dept even uses it for onboarding and hiring forms.

Curious about this question...a more applicable question might be "How could Smartsheet improve?"
From my experience of using this platform for almost 12 years, my biggest request would be to a: make the basic improvements that have been requested for years, such as saving the sort in sheets (that feature is there in reports), b: though I realize it is a business offering a service, the massive price increase they've implemented the last few years has been extremely painful.

The only thing "bad" I have noticed from Smartsheet is that there are features that might be cool that we haven't seen implemented yet. That said, Smartsheet has a really cool process for requesting features that you would find useful, and they are constantly doing updates that include those requests.

I don't think it's bad, once you get use to the system it's pretty easy to use. The one thing I found hard is the columns have a limited number of characters you can use, but you can always give more detail when you are created your sheet.

No built-in version control.

Smartsheet, as a whole, is not bad. Many in my organization use it successfully. For me personally, its main marketed feature (workflow/planning/collaborating) is of no use to me. And that's where Smartsheet's training focuses. Since my needs are simple, I tend to use Excel instead of Smartsheet whenever possible.

After using Smartsheet for over a year, I have found it to meet our needs with scheduling and managing New Product Development, Marketing and Research & Development. I would only say the more you learn about Smartsheet, the more ideas for functionality you can come up with, but you can easily submit functionality requests to Smartsheet and they add it to their list. some become available and others are add-ons that do cost a pretty hefty price. But overall for our size of organization (100-250 employees) it's been a great addition.

Has other applications for tracking tasks than project management

Smartsheet is very slow in delivering new features, which have been requested by hundreds of users probably. For example, Baseline which is a basic necessity of a project plan, was requested as early as around 2015, but it was not implemented until 2021.

I have used Smartsheet for years and not only has it helped finish construction projects on time it has saved me money, and even helped helped in getting me signed contracts. I often show my potential clients my projected start date and completion date with all the work and pricing. I ask them if my competitors have been willing to be this transparent and accountable and most often they tell me no, then they sign up with me. Smartsheet is also inexpensive and easy to learn and operate, has a lot of templates ready to use so you don’t have to start from scratch or be an Excel wizard
