Installation failure. All text with WP plugin in manager is scrambled and illegible. a translation issue? /input fields are unaffected.

I did not get a welcome email when I installed the plugin on my Wordpress site. I have tried multiple times by doing the test emails with different email addresses and keep getting the message "Unable to send email to"

I am trying to understand if this is an issue. In the WP Cerber logs, I see multiple requests coming in of the format https:///null These get rejected with a 404. These are coming from multiple IP addresses. They are occurring across across a range of pages on our blog (cooking recipes). For one page, I setup up a redirect to direct to the URL without the /null. This worked OK but I am not sure it is best practise ?. Is this a BOT sending in requests with /null appended to the URL ?. What is the purpose ?. Is this a concern ? Thanks, Keith.
