When customizing the theme, there is an option for adding custom CSS. So how that function works and how to same get implemented in the theme?
First of all - ALWAYS make a child theme so that updates don't remove any customization you might make. Than you create your own style sheet and your own javascript file. Those are placed in the app-> public -> wp-content folder under another folder named whatever your site is going to be called. You can search the web for the info you need in those custom files so that the child theme will actually or contact me directly and I'll point you in the right direction. Lots of info on the web. All style changes and "tweaks" to javascript functionality are made in your custom files

It depends on your theme, often in the "Theme Options" panel there is a "Custom CSS" listing where you can add your own custom CSS. Also many themes now have color and style options built right in to reduce the amount of CSS you have to add yourself.

Well it use to be quite easy and they had an editor to change the stylesheets in Wordpress but now they don't really have that option anymore. If you want to work with barebone stylesheets, I recommend downloading your theme and using Dreamweaver or Visual Editor to make changes.

I honestly do not know. I use a programmer to maintain my site.
We have over 2,000 duplicated contacts, but as far as we know, it is a very manual process to delete them.

Removing duplicates needs to be done carefully in any system and it can happen as contacts can have multiple email addresses (home, business..).
HubSpot recently introduced a de-duplication tool for contacts and companies. It uses an AI engine to review the database and full up possible duplicates. You can then review and merge or ignore them one by one.
You can find it under Contacts -> Actions -> Manage Duplicates

Hello, actually you can remove duplicates by going to Contacts -> Actions -> Manage Duplicates.
Also, if you want, you can use Insycle. It is nice to clean you database and remove duplicates.

We are currently using HubSpot for recruiting and onboarding but it seems to meddle our data when job candidates get into the CRM. How have you found ways around this?
Just re-read your question. In what way is it meddling with your data when a new applicant gets in there? I presume you mean when you add a new candidate into HubSpot? Do you have rules about the lifecycle stages or workflows to manage new contacts?
