I'm probably missing something but please point me to something that allows my to build site geometry as easy as I can build orthogonal geometry for buildings. I understand the degree of difficulty jumps up exponentially but still.

Try the 2DXY\_SiteSurvey add-on. The precise survey lines are very easy to set. The become familiar with the integrated site location and sand box tools for 3D modeling.

When I project a 3D geometry onto a flat surface using the sandbox tools, it breaks the geometry at corners. This makes bringing topo lines from CAD into Sketchup for modeling very difficult.

Please share an example of this in image format, in essence this is possible with projection tools.
