As a content marketer, I’m trying to figure out the best way to track engagement trends across social media platforms. Anyone who’s had to report on campaign performance knows the struggle: pulling data from different channels, piecing it together in spreadsheets, and trying to explain what’s actually driving engagement. That’s why I’ve been looking into social media analytics tools. They seem to play a big role in solving those headaches. While looking into it, I checked out the latest G2 Grid Report for Social Media Analytics, and here’s how the top five stack up by overall score:
- Hootsuite: Seen as the classic all-in-one option. A lot of G2 users recommend it for tracking engagement at scale because of its wide feature set and established market presence.
- Sprout Social: Popular for its reporting and collaboration features. Many teams like how easy it is to share engagement insights with clients or stakeholders.
- SOCi: Looks like the go-to for multi-location and franchise brands. G2 feedback suggests it’s especially helpful when tracking engagement trends across dozens of accounts or pages.
- Semrush: While best known for SEO, G2 users note that its social analytics are strong too, especially for connecting content performance, keyword insights, and engagement trends in one place..
- Zoho Social: Comes up a lot in reviews from smaller teams. It’s seen as budget-friendly and straightforward, with enough analytics power to surface engagement trends without unnecessary complexity.
Apart from the top 5, I am also seeing other tools like Vista Social, Brandwatch, Agorapulse, RivalIQ, Statusbrew, SocialPilot, Buffer, etc. Now, this is a long list. I’d love to hear from users about your real experiences.
- Which platform has worked best for you when it comes to tracking engagement trends, and why?
- Which features actually save time or make reporting easier?
- Do you prefer an all-in-one platform or something lighter?
- What features make the biggest difference for you—real-time analytics, reporting, or integrations?
- Have you run into any trade-offs with the tools you use?
Would be great to compare notes!
Also, should one consider the free versions of these tools or go for the paid version itself?
I have used the free trial only for Sprout Social which was very good has to be said but never got the chance to explore in depth.
On the flipside, Hootsuite is really more than enough if you want to go all in. Can be used for social listening, competitive intel, analytics, reporting, scheduling posts & other typical automations as well. Very well rounded, easy to use tool which is definitely one of the bigger strengths - it's very easy for a new marketer to pick it up and start using it - intuitive and fun to use.
Another great feature is the Amplify program which allows you to create great thought leadership content for your employees, exec team etc. to go in on branding and content leadership.
Buffer and Hootsuite are very good for social media management. All the activities of all the integrated Social Platform can be conducted from one tool. Next in the list are Sprout Social and Semrush. They also offer tracking, publishing, and scheduling features. They even help in analysing competitors' engagement.
How are digital marketing experts utilizing Semrush to uncover unique SEO and content marketing opportunities?
In addition to the keyword gap feature, I like the Keyword Strategy Builder. It can help you explore more areas in-depth and expand your niche with related content.
