Question on: Boyue Printing
[Do you know what digital printing is?](/discussions/do-you-know-what-digital-printing-is)

Digital printing is a technology that prints directly from digital files, eliminating the need for fixed physical printing plates used in traditional methods like offset printing. Its key features include on-demand production, variability, and speed. After files are sent from a computer to a digital printer, they can be output directly, with the content of each printed piece being customizable (such as variable data). This makes it highly suitable for small-batch, personalized, and urgent jobs. Common applications include brochures, business cards, personalized albums, variable data labels, and more.

Do you know what digital printing is? Digital printing is a modern printing technology that directly outputs digital files (such as PDFs, images) onto materials like paper, fabric, or plastic through a printer, without the need for traditional printing plates. It is characterized by flexibility and efficiency, making it suitable for small-batch, personalized customization, or quick delivery needs. It is commonly used in commercial printing, advertising posters, personalized gifts, and other fields.

Of course. I'd be happy to explain. In simple terms, digital printing is a modern method of printing directly from a digital file onto a material, like paper, without the need for traditional printing plates. Think of it as a highly advanced, industrial-scale version of the printer you might have at home or in your office. This process skips the lengthy setup stages of traditional printing, such as creating films, plate-making, and color proofs. The digital information is sent straight to the printer, which applies ink or toner directly onto the surface. ✨ Key Features and Advantages Digital printing is defined by several key characteristics that make it a powerful and flexible technology: No Plates Required: This is the most significant difference. Eliminating the plate-making step saves considerable time and cost, especially for smaller jobs. Variable Data Printing (VDP): Each printed piece can be unique. The content can be changed from one sheet to the next without stopping or slowing down the printing process. This is perfect for personalized direct mail, custom invitations, or targeted marketing materials where names, addresses, or even images are different on every piece. On-Demand & Short Runs: It is highly economical for printing small quantities, even a single copy. This "print-on-demand" capability reduces waste and eliminates the need for large inventories of pre-printed materials. Speed and Efficiency: The simplified workflow means projects can be completed much faster, often with a turnaround time of just a few hours. Proofing and Corrections: Mistakes can be corrected instantly, and a final proof can be printed on the actual machine just before the full run, ensuring accuracy. 📊 Digital vs. Traditional Printing The choice between digital and traditional (like offset) printing often comes down to the specifics of the project. Here’s a quick comparison: Feature Digital Printing Traditional (Offset) Printing Best For Short runs, on-demand, personalized items Very long runs (e.g., 1,000+ copies) Setup Minimal; direct from a digital file Extensive; requires plate creation Cost Lower for small quantities Lower per-unit cost for large quantities | Customization | Excellent; every piece can be different | Not possible; all pieces are identical | 🛠️ Common Applications You encounter digital printing more often than you might think. It's used for a wide variety of products, including: Marketing Materials: Brochures, flyers, and posters, especially when needed quickly or in small batches. Personalized Items: Custom photo books, wedding invitations, and business cards. Corporate Documents: Reports, manuals, and presentations that are updated frequently. Packaging & Labels: Short-run packaging prototypes or customized product labels. Direct Mail: Personalized postcards and letters for advertising campaigns.

Question on: CampaignDrive by Pica9
[How are templates installed on the system?](/discussions/how-are-templates-installed-on-the-system)

Can templates be installed by our administrators directly? Or does Pica9 have to install the templates? What file formats can templates be provided in for installation on the system?

Administrators can install their own templates, using CampaignDrive's "InDesign Import" tool. Or, they can build templates from scratch in the CampaignDrive studio.

Answered: Kevin Groome on January 5, 2022

Administrators of CampaignDrive can install all of their own marketing templates without any need for the Pica9 development team to be involved. There are two ways to install templates on the system: 1. InDesign Import and 2. Manual Installation With InDesign Import, designers can format their existing InDesign files and upload them directly into CampaignDrive. The entire process takes just a few minutes. Templates that were not created in InDesign can also be installed by re-creating them with CampaignDrive's Composition Studio. Should you need assistance installing templates, Pica9's seasoned team of template designers is available on an hourly basis.

Question on: Canva
[Canva for non-designers: where do you hit limits on advanced control and exports?](/discussions/canva-for-non-designers-where-do-you-hit-limits-on-advanced-control-and-exports)

Canva’s drag-and-drop editor, huge template library, and tools like Magic Resize, Background Remover, and Magic Write can make it easy to create professional-looking assets without expensive software or a steep learning curve. At the same time, some people run into limitations with advanced typography and customization, plus frustration around print order hiccups or support responsiveness. Export options like layered vector or PSD formats can also be a sticking point when moving projects into other suites. Where have you found Canva works best, and what limitations or workarounds have mattered most for you?

Canva is excellent for quickly creating professional-looking designs without advanced design skills, but the limitations become more noticeable when you need precise control. Advanced users may find some restrictions around detailed layout adjustments, typography control, asset editing, and fine-grained design customization compared with professional tools like Adobe products.
