Question on: Salary.com
[How does CompXL leverage Excel?](/discussions/leveraging-excel)

Leveraging Excel

CompXL utilizes Excel in three ways: 1) template for planning workbook and formulas 2) template for report format and 3) optional user interface for select users that are authorized to conduct planning offline. CompXL uses Excel primarily as a formula engine and configuration tool. A client specific excel file is utilized to define eligibility rules, budget rules, and incentive structures. This file is uploaded into CompXL and it becomes the basis for configuring the user’s online planning experience. CompXL also leverages excel as a template for supporting bespoke reporting requirements. Excel is a very flexible tool for producing highly functional reports, graphs, and even print perfect output for reward statements and salary adjustment letters. The excel reports can render in pdf, csv, or html so that users do not need excel in order to utilize the system generated reports. Some clients also prefer the option of allowing users to download excel files, conduct their planning (while traveling for example) offline, and then enable the user to upload the file back into CompXL. This download/upload option is configurable (on/off per user) by administrator and it is typically only turned on for small number of users who tend to work with large data sets.
