A House bill (HR795) and a companion Senate bill (S460) are currently being pushed through their respective bodies to make up to $5,250 per employee per year in student loan contributions pre-tax. Both S460 and HR795 have garnered major, bi-partisan support that continues to grow.

Student loan contributions are taxed in the same way as compensation. The contribution will be entered as a line item on the employee's W2. While this lack of tax advantage is often a source of push back, when compared to other voluntary benefits such as gym memberships, student loan benefits are far more meaningful in an employee's decision to join and stay with an employer. Even with pending legislation on the horizon that would make contributions on Goodly pre-tax, tens of thousands of companies are already offering student loan contributions to stand out as an employer of choice.
