Visual studio is closed source. You cannot get the source code of visual studio. However visual studio code may be available as open source.

Yes, you can definitely use mysql with vscode! I'm most-familiar in using mysql with back-end Web dev, and to use it I include Node Packages (NPM) with a "require" call in server scripts, and an install on the command line ("npm install mysql"). There is a lot of documentation on this in Stackoverflow as well.

You can use many database including MySQL along with VS , but Microsoft SQL server is the most compitable DB.
